Science experiments are fun.  More so when they get you drunk.
I’m not entirely certain about the legality, but I have to try making Arak.

I found some good pictures illustrating the process (though not at a scale feasible in a Manhattan apartment). Now I just have to find a proper alembic to truly effect the experience.

P.S. While vodka will work, a capful of arak in the chilled water – you did chill it, didn’t you? – filling the base of the nargeela (despite the link, please don’t call it a hookah) is a little known trick that strongly affects the flavor of the smoke.  Don’t overdo it. 

P.P.S Use natural coals. Screw it. I have to write a nargeela how to.
